SEASIDE — ACT Enterprises L.P. of Calistoga, Calif., has purchased the 61-unit Guesthouse Inn & Suites and Weiss’ Paradise Suites & Rentals. Guesthouse General Manager Steve Coletta said the sale of the economy motel by Heritage Hotels was final on April 2. “It sounds as if everything will remain the same in terms of branding and amenities for now,” he said. Guesthouse employment stood at nine in April, but Coletta said it ramps up during the summer. Paradise offers a variety of rental properties in Seaside.

SEASIDE — Recent startup Sea Star Gelato celebrated its grand opening in April with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a donation of more than $790 to Seaside Food 4 Kids. “We wanted to find a way to give back to the community that has been so welcoming and full of support during our first weeks of being open,” said co-owner Margot Nye. “We have had so many people stop in and wish us well. We also appreciate the many out-of-town visitors that helped drive sales allowing us to make this donation possible.” The family owned and operated business opened in February at 8 N. Columbia.

ASTORIA — In a ceremony on May 5, Columbia Memorial Hospital/Oregon Health Sciences University Cardiology Clinic will donate seven automated external defibrillators to community organizations in Clatsop County. CMH awarded AEDs to the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce, Clatsop County Humane Society, Astoria Column, Hammond Library, Clatsop County Heritage Museum, Oregon Film Museum, and Astor Street Opry Company.

ILWACO — Member-run ArtPort Gallery opened its doors on May 1 at 177 Howerton Way SE. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to enhancing the arts and culture of the region through the operation of a fine art gallery that supports the professional goal of artists and connects the community with artists through a variety of artistic opportunities, said Rebecca Read, board president. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

ASTORIA — Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa won the Trip Advisor 2015 Traveler’s Choice Award “Top 25 Hotels for Romance — United States.” The hotel joins five-star hotels Auberge du Soleil in Napa Valley, Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, the Marquesa Hotel in Key West, Florida and other properties from Sedona to Savannah named in that category.
