Despite the economic downturn due to the coronavirus, the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce has seen a near record of membership applications this summer.

Since July 1, 13 businesses and individuals have applied.

Jerry Sandness, membership coordinator, said the chamber was established in 1873, so it has been connecting and supporting businesses through previous economic hardships, including two great Astoria fires, 24 recessions, three depressions, two world wars and now two global pandemics. Sandness said through all these events, economic recovery has been faster and stronger when the community works together.
